Wendy Slater is a modern mystical poet, integrative metaphysical healer, artist, and photographer. Wendy’s photographic studies began in her youth and have continued for over 45 years. Slater’s studies began with traditional black and white printing with both 35mm and larger format cameras. She later studied traditional color printing and development using both 35mm and larger format cameras. Slater has focused solely on digital photography for the past 20 years.
Slater’s photography is influenced by iconic photographers such as Cartier-Bresson, Stieglitz, Imogen Cunningham, Minor White, Ansel Adams, Diane Arbus, Dorothea Lange, and Robert Frank. While Slater’s photographs range from landscapes, close-ups, portraits, documentary style, and abstracts, the underlying theme of her photography is both mysticism and realism. Slater embraces the philosophy that the spiritual is evident in the seemingly mundane, and she translates this philosophy in her photographs through the use of subtle tension with light and images in relation to the cropping or framing of the image.
